Whether you write them down or not, we all have goals, be them big or small, financial, physical, or to reach a specific mental state. I personally have many many different goals and to list them is irrelevant for the moment as I merely want to discuss how I want to pursue them and stay motivated.
The first step I found really is writing it down. I find myself bored quite often. Even though there are things that must be done, or that I want to accomplish, if it is not directly on my mind it is easy to ignore.
WRITE IT DOWN
I've been keeping a small notebook where I record everything from my daily list of stuff to do, to workout logs, to my random spur of the moment thoughts, as well as short and long term goals. It is a little messy but I find it easier to carry just one notebook around with me instead of carrying all these separate ones.
I have been kinda following this one quote to guide my day
"Make at least one definite move daily toward your goal." -Bruce Lee
I've always been a huge Bruce Lee fan. Aside from him just being a badass in general I love alot of his philosophy on life. My filipino kali/escrima instructor is always referencing him as well. But this quote seems like a very logical way for a procrastinator such as myself to get things done. Break a large task into quantifiable chunks and take that one move every day. It's all very mathematical and precise.
His whole Jeet Kune Do philosophy in general was about taking the essential and discarding what you do not need. Applied to fighting it would be taking whatever techniques work for you and discarding the ones that don't work even if they are part of a "classical system". This applies to everything in life I feel. For example, studying for a test. You don't memorize the book, you highlight and conceptualize the key points.
In regards to my goals. Cut out the inessential. I have only so much time in one day, so I can have only so many goals at a certain time in my life. For me I would put my academics first, even though there were times in the past when I did not. I have other things I want to do such as travel to South America, Africa, rock climb, hike, scuba dive, break, learn some different languages...Obviously I can't make a definite move daily towards all these goals. What I can do is put aside X amount of money, keep up everyday with schoolwork, and stay in good shape with kali until I graduate so I can beast everything else when the time comes. I guess I have to be patient too.
It's ironic that a big part of his philosophy is to be free flowing and disregard systems of approach when he also suggests systematically dismantling goals. I could just be getting into semantics.
